No doubt about Frank Zappa’s revolutionary genius in 1963. Steve Allen’s genius skills as an interviewer, comingled with his dynamic and genuine personality, made this interview an excellent specimen of what an interview should be and a look back at live television at its best.

Firstly the time dedicated to this dynamic performance. Second, Mr. Allen’s genuine and focused interest in Mr. Zappa’s visionary orchestration cycle. Then Steve Allen essentially thanks Frank Zappa for taking his show outside the usual box. Never dismissive nor insulting, just respectful of another Man’s Vision. Not to mention Frank’s farsightedness in including Steve and his entire band in his performance.
